This week on The Fix we spent almost the entire hour talking about the new Loki show. We tried to keep it spoiler-free, but some small ones might have snuck through. So it goes!
The show, now half over, is moving in a very interesting direction which, if leveraged correctly, could impact the entire MCU both past and present. I for one am not 100% sure Disney is ready to make that kind of commitment, but I also hope that they do. I like the theory I came up with on the show (in the last 1/3rd I would say, if you want to skip ahead) a lot, it has far-reaching implications, lets us gloss over some of the more glaring oddities in Endgames time travel and also puts the MCU characters on a nice path of “free will”.
I think my theory also is a nice opener for the presumed upcoming big-bad Kang the Conqueror. I have seen plenty of theories online that Kang is actually one of the Time Keepers (although the show has also hinted at his existence in a standalone way already), so maybe that is swaying my own predictions. Mostly when I make these kind of calls, it’s how I would make the show go if I were writing it. So in this case I am pretty proud of this one, in that I think it makes for decent writing. It subverts the audiences expectations about what is going on in the show, it gives Loki a chance to be the “good guy” for once while sticking to his classic self-centered ways and it would be a fun reveal for a villain we already know is coming in Ant-Man 3. It also deals with the Loki shows’ themes of free will in a way that I think is pretty satisfying. I for one will be pretty disappointed if the “Sacred Timeline” turns out to be as sacred as they say in the TVA.
Also it’s been 25 years since the Nintendo 64 was released! What a classic console with a weird-ass controller. I guess we needed the N64 three-hander in order to evolve to the near perfection that was the GameCube controller, but it was certainly weird getting used to. Plus it gave us GoldenEye, a game where the multiplayer wasn’t even supposed to exist. Would anyone even remember that game if it didn’t? Leave a comment down below with your favorite N64 game! One of mine that wasn’t Mario, Zelda or 007-based would definitely be Wave Race. Just look at that water!
